An Economist analyzes the society’s distribution of resources such as labor, land, raw materials and machinery to produce services and goods by conducting research, collecting data and monitoring economic trends trough surveys, sampling and such other methods. The economist develops forecasts on different issues related to economy including inflation, energy costs, exchange and interest rates, taxes, business cycles, employment levels and many others.
An important part of the job of an economist is to prepare reports for presenting statistical and economic concepts. Based on the gathered data and information, the economist may also try to formulate plans to help provide solution for economic problems. Some other potential titles of an Economist are Economic Consultant, Economic Analyst, Forensic Economist, Project Economist, Research Analyst, Economic Analysis Director, Health Researcher, Revenue Research Analyst and Economic Development Specialist.
To qualify for a TN Visa as an Economist, the applicant for the TN Visa Economist profession must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:
- Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree
The applicant for TN Visa Economist profession must also provide the additional requirements:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship;
- A detailed letter from prospective employer;
- Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay
If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Economist professional status.
A qualified Economist can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
