Application for US Citizenship

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Form N-400, Application for Naturalization is the process through which a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder) obtains U.S. citizenship. U.S. permanent residents can apply for naturalization to become U.S. citizens through filing Form N-400, Application for Naturalization with USCIS, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • If you became a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder), other than through marriage to a U.S. citizen, have had your green card for at least five (5) years, and meet all other eligibility requirements to become a U.S. citizen.
  • If you became a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder) through marriage to a U.S. citizen, you are eligible to file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization after you have had your green card for at least three (3) years, and meet all other eligibility requirements to become a U.S. citizen.

If you have has your green card for at least three (3) years thorough marriage to a U.S. citizen, or, five (5) years, if you became a U.S. permanent resident other than through marriage to a U.S. citizen, then you may qualify to file USCIS Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.
