U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) continues to accept H-1B nonimmigrant petitions that are subject to the fiscal year FY2012 cap. According to the numbers released by USCIS yesterday, in the past week approximately 900 regular Cap cases were filed and 800 master’s cap cases were filed. These numbers are from the most recent USCIS update on petitions counting against the H-1B cap of 65,000 and the 20,000 U.S. master’s degree or higher cap exemption. As of April 27, 2011, USCIS has received approximately 8,000 H-1B petitions counting toward the 65,000 cap, and approximately 5,900 petitions toward the 20,000 cap exemption for individuals with advanced degrees. At the current rate, H1B numbers for FY2012 could last well into 2012.
