TN Psychologist

A Psychologist studies human behavior and mental processes through observing, recording and interpreting how individuals relate to each other and to their environment. With the use of scientific methods, procedures and principles to test the ideas of individuals, Psychologists look for patterns to help them in understanding and predicting behavior. The research studies conducted by Psychologists played a big part in understanding between individuals, organizations, groups, institutions, cultures and nations.

Psychologists, just like other social scientists, observe and formulate theories or hypotheses based on what they have observed, although they focus more on behavior of individuals, particularly on their feelings which influence their actions.  Some other potential job titles of Psychologist are Clinical Psychologist, Child Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist, Out-Patient Therapist, Clinical Therapist, Behavioral Psychologist, Pediatric Psychologist, Sex Offender Treatment Professional and Eating Disorder Specialist.

To qualify for TN Psychologist non-immigrant status, the applicant for Psychologist profession must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:

  1. Licenciatura Degree; OR
  2. State/provincial license

The applicant for TN Psychologist profession must also provide the additional requirements:

  1. Proof of Canadian citizenship;
  2. A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
  3. Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN stay

If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Psychologist professional status.

A qualified Psychologist can obtain TN Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to one year provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
