An Animal Scientist conducts research in domestic farm animals’ genetics, reproduction, nutrition and development for the purpose of formulating efficient methods to produce and process meat, eggs, poultry and milk. For this reason, Animal Scientists consult with agricultural producers on how to provide safe and healthy housing for animals, improve disease and parasite control, reduce mortality rate, improve waste disposal and increase of animal product production.
An Animal Scientist is often involved in the breeding and selection of animals, investigation and analysis of various processing methods, feeding techniques, management practices and environmental conditions and their effects on quantity and quality of animal products. Some other potential job titles of Animal Scientist are Research and Development Director Animal Nutritionist, Beef Cattle Specialist, Animal Nutrition Consultant, Animal Management Systems Specialist, Animal Science Section Leader, Dairy Consultant, Beef Cattle Nutritionist, and Beef Technical Services Manager.
To qualify for a TN Visa as an Animal Scientist, the applicant must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:
- Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree
The applicant for the TN Visa Animal Scientist profession must also provide the additional requirements:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship;
- A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
- Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN visa stay
If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Animal Scientist professional status.
A qualified Animal Scientist can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
