TN Visa Astronomer

Astronomers apply the laws of mathematics and physics to study the nature of matter and the energy throughout the universe including the moon, sun, star, planets and galaxies. They find solutions to problems in space flight, navigation and satellite communications, and develop the techniques and instruments necessary for observing and collecting astronomical data. They primarily collect and analyze larger quantities of data from observatories and satellites.

Astronomers may work in universities and colleges to teach astronomy or do research, in museums, observatories, planetariums, government agencies or companies in aerospace industry.  Some other potential job titles of Astronomer are Research Scientist, Lunar and Planetary Institute Director, National Radio Astronomy Observatory Director, Astrophysicist, Space Sciences Director and Observatory Director.

To qualify for a TN Visa as an Astronomer, the applicant must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:

  1. Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

The applicant for a TN Visa Astronomer profession must also provide the additional requirements:

  1. Proof of Canadian citizenship;
  2. A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
  3. Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay

If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Astronomer professional status.

A qualified Astronomer can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
