TN Visa Biologist

Biologists study organisms and their relationship to their environment by attempting to discover the underlying mechanisms that govern how they work. They are typically involved in applied research which aims to improve or develop medical, agricultural or industrial processes. Depending on the industry that Biologist are involved, whether in product development or applied research, they usually develop new drugs, medical diagnostic tests or treatments, increase crop yields or develop new biofuels.  They often work on marketable treatments to meet their employers’ business goals.

Biologists typically conduct research in labs with the use of a wide variety of equipment, usually involving plants and animals, although some biological researchers can also be done outside the laboratory. Some other potential job titles of Biologist are Environmental Analyst, Scientist, Environmental Specialist, Research Scientist, Aquatic Scientist, Fisheries Biologist, Assistant Scientist, Marine Biologist and Research Biologist.

To qualify for a TN Visa as a Biologist, the applicant for the TN visa must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:

  1. Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

The applicant for a TN Visa as Biologist profession must also provide the additional requirements:

  1. Proof of Canadian citizenship;
  2. A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
  3. Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN visa stay

If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for a TN visa as a Biologist.

A qualified Biologist can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
