Dentists handle a variety of tasks such as diagnosing and treating disorders and diseases of teeth and mouth tissues. They also give advice to patients regarding dental care to avoid future issues. With the use of proper tools, Dentists remove tooth decays, fill cavities, examine dental x-rays, straighten teeth, repair fractured teeth, extract decayed teeth, replace missing dentures and perform other dental repair services.
Aside from dealing with teeth, dentists also perform corrective surgical procedures on gums and the supporting bones for treating gum diseases. They can also administer anesthetics and prescribe antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs and other medications. Some potential job titles of Dentist are Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Dentist, General Dentist, Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Associate Dentist, Pediatric Dentist, Dental Surgery Doctor (DDS), Dental Medicine Doctor (DMD), and Family Dentist.
To qualify for a TN Visa as a Dentist, the applicant must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:
- D.D.S., D.M.D.,
- Doctor en Odontologia, OR
- Doctor en Cirugia Dental; OR
- State/Provincial license
The applicant for the TN Visa Dentist profession must also provide the additional requirements:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship;
- A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
- Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay
If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Dentist professional status.
A qualified Dentist can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
