TN Visa Dietitian

A Dietitian supervises the preparation and servicing of food, participates in researches on foods, develops modified diets and educates people on proper nutritional habits. The dietitian aims to provide nutritional intervention to patients, communities and groups by preparing, serving and recommending tasty yet nutritious foods.  The major part of the Dietician’s job is to make dietary modification in order to address medical issues that involve dietary intake. Dietitians may also conduct research, provide counsel to individuals regarding their diet and may supervise the activities of organizations that provide quantity food service.

A brief example of the work of the dietitian is to plan and prepare specific artificial nutritional needs to those patients not capable of consuming foods normally. A Dietitian may also provide specialized services for patients needing special diet such as those suffering from obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, renal disease and the like.   Some other potential job titles of Dietitian are Clinical Dietician, Clinical Dietitian, Correctional Food Service Supervisor, Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, Dietary Manager, Pediatric Clinical Dietician, Registered Dietician and Outpatient Dietitian.

To qualify for a TN Visa as a Dietitian, the applicant must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:

  1. Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

The applicant for the TN Visa Dietitian profession must also provide the additional requirements:

  1. Proof of Canadian citizenship;
  2. A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
  3. Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay

If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Dietitian professional status.

A qualified Dietitian can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
