(including Oceanographer in Mexico and the United States)
Geophysicists study the physics of the earth and its environment, including the earth’s shape, gravitational and magnetic fields, composition and internal structure, dynamics and their surface expressions in plate tectonics, rock formation and generation of magmas in volcanoes with the use of geological applications. Geophysicists are divided into two great categories, the Global and Exploration Geophysicists. The Global Physicists study earthquakes, physical oceanography, the main magnetic field and the thermal state and meteorology of the earth. The Exploration Geophysicists apply physical principles to study and evaluate resources such as gas, oil, minerals, building stones and water.
Geophysicists are generally involved in the study of evolution and internal structure of the earth, the ocean, earthquakes and various physical phenomena. Some other potential job titles of Geophysicist are Environmental Protection Geologist, Geologist, Project Geologist, Exploration Geologist, Mine Geologist, Hydrogeologist Engineering Geologist, Geological Specialist and Geoscientist.
