A Librarian has been traditionally associated with taking charge of a collection of books in the library, such as public libraries, elementary or secondary school media center, colleges and universities, corporations, museums, non-profit organizations, etc., and performs other services related to the library. Modern Librarians, however, may deal with a collection of information in various formats including magazines, books, video recordings, audio recordings, newspapers, manuscripts, photographs, maps, other graphic material, web searching, bibliographic databases and digital sources.
Highly trained in library and information science, a Librarian organizes and manages information materials, and provides them to those who need the information. A Librarian’s tasks may involve, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining materials in the library, as well as furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers’ advisory services. Some other potential titles of a Librarian are Public Services Librarian, Reference Librarian, Library Director, Library Media Specialist, Catalog Librarian, Technical Services Librarian, Children’s Librarian, Medical Librarian and Serials Librarian.
To qualify for a TN Visa as a Librarian , the applicant for the TN visa must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:
- M.L.S. or B.L.S. (for which another Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree is a prerequisite)
The applicant for a TN Visa as a Librarian profession must also provide the additional requirements:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship;
- A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
- Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay
If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Librarian professional status.
A qualified Librarian can obtain TN Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
