A Nutritionist provides advices on matters of the impacts of food and nutrition on health, and is known for his/her healthy regard for foods and their life-sustaining properties. The primary concern of the Nutritionist is the prevention and treatment of diseases by observing proper dietary care. After evaluating the diets of clients and patients who suffer from medical issues, Nutritionists typically recommend changes of the patients’ intake of particular types of foods to fight different ailments. Nutritionists may also supervise large scale meal planning and meal preparation for organization, communities or schools.
A Nutritionist also structures and recommends dietary plans for families which often include acquiring the right foods and proper meal preparation. Some of their responsibilities are budgeting and purchasing food items, implementing strict health and safety codes, writing reports and maintaining records of dietary activities. Some potential job titles of Nutritionist are Dietitian, Clinical Dietitian, Correctional Food Service Supervisor, Registered Dietitian, Outpatient Dietitian, Dietary Manager, Registered Dietician and Pediatric Clinical Dietician.
To qualify for a TN Visa as a Nutritionist, the applicant must have earned, and is able to provide proof of the following educational requirements:
- Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree
The applicant for the TN Visa Nutritionist profession must also provide the additional requirements:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship;
- A detailed support letter from prospective employer;
- Proof of intent to return to his/her permanent residence in Canada at the expiration of the temporary TN Visa stay
If the applicant is able to provide evidence of the requirements enumerated above, he/she may qualify for TN Visa Nutritionist professional status.
A qualified Nutritionist can obtain TN Visa Professional status for a maximum of three years. Any extension of the status may be issued for up to three years provided that the individual continues to comply with the requirements for TN Visa professionals. The number of extensions has no limit. However, the professional must continue to demonstrate that his/her employment is temporary in nature, and that his/her NAFTA entry is not used to bypass normal procedures of immigration.
